SL001 Lever Rifle Speed Loader Instructions

Compatible calibres: 32-20, 25-20, .38 Special, .357 Magnum

Loading the Speed Loader

  1. Load six cartridges into the speed loader, using the next cartridge to push the previous one past the detent.

  2. Invert the loader and give it a firm shake. If no cartridges fall out, retention is correct.

  3. To adjust retention, use a 3mm Allen key:

    • Turn clockwise for more retention.

    • Turn counter-clockwise for less retention.

    • (Loaders are set for .357 Magnum from the factory.)

  4. Do not allow the detent to protrude too far into the channel or case rim, as this may damage the cartridge plunger or detent. (Replacement detents are available in our online shop.)

Using the Speed Loader

  1. Ensure your rifle is unloaded and the chamber is empty before use.

  2. Place the head of the speed loader against the rifle’s loading gate, ensuring the hook catches the front of the loading gate.

  3. Keep your fingers in front of the collar, then firmly and quickly push the handle forward to load your rifle.

  4. Do not attempt to top up the magazine with the speed loader.

  5. To reload, repeat steps 2–4.

 Important Notes

  • Cartridge overall length (COAL) and projectile shape are critical. If you experience loading jams, try adjusting your COAL first. If the issue persists, experiment with different projectile shapes.

  • Do not use FMJ, spitzer, or ballistic tip projectiles.

  • For best performance, we recommend having your lever-action rifle tuned, including lightening the loading gate spring.

  • Marlin 1894 rifles require a minor magazine tube modification. Visit our website for detailed instructions.
